StevestonGrand Prix of Art 2014

Just printed off my registration for this event this coming Saturday. I have to now think about what frame and mat I want to bring along to display my onsite creation. Weather is looking good. There will be more than 100 artists on site. From the emails that have been coming as updates, there may be still be a few spaces to register on the day of the event. It is being held at Britannia Heritage Shipyards in Richmond. You can look up the site from the website or go onto facebook for the Stevenston Grand Prix. I will be working with ink and watercolor again as it seems to be my favorite as of late. We will be located all over Steveston as part of a random selection. Its a great day to come and watch artists enjoying the venue and the energy of the day!I painted this at last years event.Morning walk in Steveston

Gibson's Paint Out! and International Painting Day

I headed out early this morning and met fellow artists Hans and Ghyslaine Grey on our way to enjoy the events at the Gibsons Paint Out organized by Gibsons Artist Jan Poynter and sponsored by the town of Gibsons. We began with a 1 and 1/2 hour demonstration on plein air acrylic painting by Jan. She provided so many great tips on setup and composition when painting en plein air. Then we all headed out to the various posts and venues setup for the event. The weather was so great, we couldn't easily make a decision on where to setup. I ended up at the government dock near Molly's Reach. Other artists included Federation of Canadian Artist Alfonso Tejada who was also completed two separate on site paintings of the fishing trawlers and then the landing area. Jan kept everyone motivated with picture taking and we took breaks as needed to view each other's work. Some even managed a pint at Grandma's pub to help fortify their spirits. Tomorrow, the event continues with a sketch crawl in the morning, a demo by AFCA Jeff Wilson, and more plein airing. The event finishes with the art being displayed at the Art Building and Landing Gallery. The event is free and you can get the schedule on Jan Poynter's web site janpoynter.comGibsons Landing Plein Air at the

Preparing for the Gibson's Paint Out!

I'm getting excited! The weather is fantastic, there are all sorts of activities going on this weekend in Gibsons under the careful attention of Jan Poynter as she holds the 2nd annual plein air event on the Sunshine Coast. Some artists are already there today meeting for the first time. I've refilled my portable watercolor trays and am hoping to have some fun doing pen and ink on Bristol paper. It will be easier then carrying too many items with me. It will just be my painting stool, poratable easel, paint trays and a portable water carrier. I hope to take some great photos and at the same time enjoy the open air and comraderie of all the artists.

Take down and Hang up

Busy morning as the show in Hycroft finished and the next show at the Unitarian Church from September 2nd to October 31st was put up. Good day to do it as the rain just kept coming down outside! Also heard from the Federation of Canadian Artists that my submission to the Scenes from Western Canada Show didn't make it. Felt disappointed, but have to realize all the great things that have happened over the summer, everything can't be always so upbeat. More challenges to get more paintings done now for future shows! I hope to complete pieces for the North Shore Arts Council Anynomous show and the Ten Squared 2014 show for the Federation. In the meantime, the next few weeks are filled with more Plein Air - Sept 13 & 14th is the Gibsons Plein Air, Paint Out - free to anyone going up to the Sunshine Coast. Check out Jan Poynter's website Then there is the upcoming Richmond Grand Prix of Plein Air on Sept. 20th in Steveston website Happy Painting everyone!
