Canada day on Granville Island
Wow! I am so fortunate to be plein air painting with William Liao, SFCA and Lori Bagneres on July 1st, Canada's 150th Birthday. We will be representing the Federation of Canadian Artists right in the middle of the great party on Granville Island! We will be tented and ready to show you different painting styles and we will also have some of our art work available for sale. Even better, you can then head down to the Federation gallery to see the current show of "O Canada".
My painting "Boats on the Fraser" on display until July 2nd will be going to a lovely new owner from Coquitlam. So happy it has found its new home!
If that isn't enough fun outdoor painting, there will be lots more opportunity to see us in action. July 18th, we're going to be on and around Habitat Island down at the far side of False Creek from 11am to 4pm. Come see us in a great setting where nature meets urban excitement!
Happy Canada Day! Hope to see you on Granville Island 10 to 5pm. I will have hand painted cards, paintings and my own colouring pages.

Watercolor, watercolor Everywhere!
So, while Mid Main art fair has come and gone for the year...and preparations are underway for June 10th next year.......just saying......I have to shout out that the three leading ladies, Enda Bardell, Elisabeth Sommerville and Fran Alexander did an amazing job of organizing the event. Sure we all helped and did some things, but they truly pulled it all together. Thanks for letting me be a part of it!
Now as paint brush continues in search of watercolor paper, I must say, my expressiveness has given way to 00 and 01 brushes...sometimes in my desire for details, I just can't help it! Oh to be doing free and loose washes on the paper again....I am sure it will come back to me, I just have to get these urges out of my system.
So many great calls for submissions, so little time.
I'm enjoying my exploring some of my Mediterrean scenes and the beautiful oranges and blues that work so well in that environment. However, at the same time I want to paint the cool greens here and all the lovely water and mountains and clouds and sunsets....there will be lifetimes and lifetimes in all the beauty I have around me.
Just rambling as I try to work to a deadline for the next 3 art shows. And I have to start getting my curriculum together for the upcoming cruise and the fall classes I will be presenting in West Vancouver. I also will be enjoying some plein air with other Federation artists.
So off for some needed sleep and back to exploring more watercolors tomorrow. Happy Painting!

Mid main art fair
So, after a fun and enriching day painting, I managed to get another deadline met. Today at midnight was the deadline for the group exhibition for The Harmony Arts festival. Now I can refocus my attention on getting all my inventory ready for the Mid Main Art Fair this Sunday! I'm hoping that some of our advertising will bring new and diverse people to the Heritage Hall on 15th and Main Street.
So, with that in mind, I will have the radio set to hopefully hear some news on North by north west tomorrow morning. I'm crossing my fingers! We have 18 terrific artists including Fran Alexander, Mariko Ando, Enda Bardell, Jane Crosby, Lorn Curry, Christine Hood, Jeanette Jarville, Sheree Jones, James Koll, Edward Peck, Elisabeth Somerville, Carol McQuaid, Nicola Morgan, Jackie Conradi Robertson, Camille Sleeman, Jeff Wilson, and Grayzna Wolski. The one day sale is from 11am to 6pm, you can even go to eventbrite and get a free ticket for the fun of it. Entrance is free and each artist will bing their own unique style.
There is so much going on this summer with the Federation. I have had a piece, Boats on the Fraser accepted for the O Canada Show coming up from June 20th to July 4th. This will coincide with the Canada Day celebrations that I am once again volunteering at. We have a new location this year, closer to the Keg. The area will be closed off and will provide lots of foot traffic. Come by and say "Hi" on July 1stcand take a mozy on down to the Federation Gallery to see all the great art up!
Next up will be the opening of the Summer Gallery at Hycroft on July 5th from 6:30 to 8pm. We have seven established and emerging artists to see - Eva Wideman, Joan Hou, Ada Wang, Sarah Johnstone, Mary Stott, Joyce Goodwin and myself. The show will be on until August 29th.
After that is the opening of Divercity at Deer Lake Gallery along with the afternoon Art Attack from 1 to 3pm. The art that is created is auctioned off and the artists in the show are also in the gallery exhibition.
That is plenty to try and keep track with! I didn't even mention that the Vancouver sketch club starts the free Wednesday sketching events around town.....check their blog out as well! Happy Painting!
